Time is Running Out

 Planning ~

When my group first started this project one of our group members had just left for an interview at FSU film. It was quite hectic since we had only thought of 3 members of my group at the time and didn't have a 4th member so we had to find one quickly. The day we got assigned our genres was for me a very fun day. I was excited because I love music and making videos for them was like a cherry on top. Luckily we got subgenres of rock as our genre of music which was a favorite for half of my group so we were off to a good start. We were given 4 songs to pick from and though I hadn't heard of any except for one we listened to all of them at LEAST 5 times while discussing what could be done and how thoroughly before making a decision since one of our members wasn't in class we used our group chat to communicate which songs we liked. When it came down to actually picking the song though we were all stuck on 2 songs “Mountain At My Gates” by Foals which was indie rock, Cyrus was a fan of this song though it was a lot slower a song and Sam had already done another music video with a friend of theirs so they didn't wanna do it again, and “Time Is Running Out” by Muse which was electronic rock and it's pretty clear which song we chose by the title of this blog post. We chose this song because it was honestly easier to picture a story to this song and we really liked the fast pace and we saw a lot of cool things we could do with it.

After picking our song, we had to think of what we were going to do. It started slowly since we didn't communicate until our next class together since I think none of us knew where to start. On our first day of planning at the very beginning of the week we actually wrote out our schedule for how and when things were going to be done.  Sam would mostly work on the storyboard and Brooke and I would occasionally help solidify ideas or to expand on them more, and we would all split the work evenly on the research: two people would work on one case study, and two would work on the other.

The storyboard had to be done by that Friday since we would be filming everything that weekend since neither of our schedules gave us any other times to film.

When we all met again next class we ran into many problems since we never actually dove deeper into our idea so it was VERY basic so for the remainder of that day we sat and actually thought out our plans and we then finished the storyboard almost the very next day. Our next problem was that our filming was very last minute and we knew we wanted actors but since our storyboard wasn't completed we couldn't ask anyone until it was finalized so we needed to find actors on very short notice.

The idea still needed to be thought out a teeny bit more which was made clear by our instructor after pitching the storyboard and we didn't have a set-in-stone direction for the actual brand itself. At that moment I very quickly said: “Well in the video they try to get their partner off drugs so it's like a drug awareness thing”.  On the last day, we had together in class before filming, I was originally going to propose we work on the brand idea and start to build that up since we had been so focused on the video that we pushed the actual heart of the entire project to the side. But Sam walks into class and tells us that during their previous period, they spent most of the time making a marketable brand for our artist. Sam being the genius they are, had the best idea for our brand that it would be about drug awareness and our group unanimously agreed on the idea right away.

The planning of the project I feel was hectic but also not since our group was very mostly on the same page. There are definitely a lot of things we could've done better but for one of our first times doing something like this we did a pretty good job in my opinion. But if we do this again I will definitely be applying what I've learned from this experience to that project.
